While browsing what to read next in my to be read list, I figure that one of the most common format in the crime and thriller genre is the lawsuit or the main character involving lawyer as the main character. After doing some research, I discover that John Grisham is famous in writing such genre and his books have been recommended on the list couple times and this make me decide to give it a try.
When smoking in the bushes with his brother, Mark Sway has met a lawyer Jeremy Clifford trying to commit suicide. Despite Mark has tried to stop him from killing himself, Jeremy doesn’t appreciate for what Mark had done but blaming him for so annoying. To ensure his plan is going to work successfully, Jeremy invites Mark to his car and commit suicide together.
Despite Mark is very scared inside the car, he still tries to divert Jeremy’s attention and stop him from commit suicide. After chatting with each other, Jeremy finally reveals to Mark there’s a group of Mafia has hidden a dead body under his house and the body is the senator. However, he is the representative lawyer of the mafia, therefore as a lawyer he can’t betray his client. Meanwhile, as his client is going to kill him so that he decides to commit suicide before being killed by the mafia.
After seeing Jeremy shooting himself in the head, Mark decides to report to police after going back home and his litter brother is in shock. Due to curiosity, Mark hides in the bush and watches the police investigate the scene. However, Mark is discovered by the police and he is being suspected inside the car with Jeremey Clifford. Since the location of the senator’s dead body is what the police’s priority goal, therefore they are using different methods to make Mark speaks out the exact location of the dead body.
However, Mark knows that the location of dead body is a top secret, in the same time it is a threat to his safety. To looking for some legal protection, Mark employs a lawyer, Reggie Loge, to represent him and protect him from telling the truth to police.
